That is the third-person version. It is here so a conference programme can copy it without emailing me first. The press photograph is at the bottom of this page.

Making knowledge accessible

A lot of my work comes back to a simple question: how do we make information accessible to people who might otherwise struggle to find it or understand it?

For Sinhala-speaking audiences, language can be a real barrier to information about technology, science, history and the wider world. I've spent much of my working life writing, translating and adapting content to help close that gap.

Translation, to me, is more than replacing words in one language with words in another. It's about understanding an idea well enough to explain it naturally to someone with a different linguistic and cultural background. Sometimes that means finding a better example. Sometimes it means rethinking the structure of an explanation without losing what makes the original worth reading.

One example is my writing about the Luddites, the nineteenth-century movement associated with resistance to industrial machinery. I explored the subject in English and Sinhala, revisiting the history of technological change for different audiences. I've also written about technology, artificial intelligence, and other subjects where the real work is making complicated ideas understandable without making them simplistic.

This interest extends beyond publishing. I've shared what I've learned with students from the University of Ruhuna, the University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka Law College, Sabaragamuwa University, and the National Institute of Plantation Management. These experiences have given me opportunities to discuss content creation and share practical knowledge with people who are still finding their feet.

You can read more about this work in Why I Love Sharing Knowledge with the Next Generation, and explore my Sinhala article about the Luddites alongside the English version.

Beyond the screen

I'm also a licensed tourist guide specializing in Sri Lanka's Western Province. Alongside this work, I've become involved in eco-cultural guiding, wetland conservation and environmental activities around Kotte. I've participated in clean-up initiatives and presented research posters at the Wellness in Wetlands conference in 2025.

These experiences have given me a reason to look more closely at the places around me, from urban wetlands to local heritage sites. They have also opened up new interests that I continue to explore through volunteering, research and writing.
