Beyond Language Barriers
Writing, translating and adapting stories to bring ideas, information and knowledge closer to Sinhala-speaking readers.
I've always believed that good information shouldn't be difficult to access simply because of the language it's written in.
For many Sri Lankans, English can be a barrier to information about technology, science, society and the world around them. Making that information available in Sinhala is one way to make it easier for more people to understand the ideas shaping their lives.
This is something I've cared about throughout my work as a writer and digital content creator.

More than translating words
Technology has been a major part of my writing, but it has never been the only subject I'm interested in. I've written and adapted articles about technology, history, society and other subjects, trying to make unfamiliar ideas understandable without stripping away the details that make them interesting.
I see translation as more than replacing words in one language with words in another. It involves understanding the original idea, finding the right context, and explaining it in a way that feels natural to the reader. Sometimes that means adapting an example or rethinking how a story is told. The aim is to preserve what matters while making the content accessible to a different audience.
Making ideas travel
My experience creating Sinhala content has shaped how I approach writing. Whether I'm explaining a technological development, exploring a historical idea or working on a story about society, I want readers to come away understanding something they might not have understood before.
That doesn't mean every subject needs to be simplified or every explanation needs to avoid technical detail. It means giving readers a fair chance to engage with the subject, regardless of their familiarity with the terminology or the language in which the idea first appeared.
An ongoing effort
This work continues through the articles I write, the material I translate and the subjects I choose to explore. I'm interested in the space between information and understanding, and in how thoughtful writing can help close that gap.
For me, making knowledge accessible isn't limited to one subject or one language. It's about making ideas easier to encounter, understand and discuss.
